Laird J. Stuart

Dear MHS ’61 Friends,

The winds are howling on this MLK Day of Service as I’m writing to let you know that another icon from our class has passed away.  I think there was not one of us who didn’t like and respect Laird Stuart, our Student Government President.  His family moved to NJ from Missouri the summer before our freshman year.  That first day in Homeroom, to help him get oriented, he was assigned to John Pieper, the beginning of just one of many wonderful friendships, as he noted in our 50th Reunion booklet.  I’ve been in touch with Gini, his wife of 50 years.  The memorial service for him was  Saturday in Grand Haven, MI.  There will be another at Calvary Presbyterian Church in San Francisco on Feb. 9th.  You can see the obituary at (sytsemafh.com) (Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – Norton Shores, MI) or in the Grand Rapids Press.
