Erika Roll Buffey
September 1995
I don’t remember how we met in eighth grade; Erika was not in classes with Peggy
Moore and me. She was the brainy one Latin, French and German at the same time! Somehow we all connected, and, out of school, quiet, dignified “Ricky” became as crazy as we were. I always wondered what her responsible older sister Hildy’s take on us was. Ricky followed Hildy to Bucknell where she studied hard and partied harder. Summers were great fun running the Glenwood School playground together. Then one Monday morning she returned having met “The One”, Don Buffey, at a lake they were each visiting. Don accepted that Peg and I went with the package and parties moved to his fraternity at Lehigh. Through all the weddings, births, relocations, all husbands and families stayed close. Our joy was gone in 1984 when Don called to say Ricky had a ruptured brain aneurysm and unsuccessful surgery. She missed seeing her three beautiful daughters, Christine, Cynthia and Meghan grow up and have families seven boys and two girls, including an Erika she would have been so proud! We miss our best friend.
