Linda Langguth Pizzano
July 17, 2011
Linda’s passing is so recent that we decided to write a memorial instead of infringing on the privacy of family and friends. Anyone wishing to add a thought is more than welcome to do so.
With a class of about 250 students, even when we didn’t spend time together outside of school, we all knew each other at least by sight or a familiar-sounding name. Linda was a standout with a sweet face and calm demeanor, easily remembered. Those memories, forged to the background noise of bells and changing classrooms, are pretty powerful.
Linda was born in Newark, but lived in Millburn for 65 of her 67 years. Her passion was children. She worked as a teacher’s assistant at the Summit Child Care Center, at South Mountain School in Millburn and at the Overlook Medical Center’s child care center until her retirement in 2002. She devoted much of her time to her four grandchildren Austin, Matthew, Connor and Brett “the lights of her life.” It’s telling that her obituary suggests any donations in her memory be made to the Tomorrow’s Children Fund or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
We know that Linda and her husband, Tom, were closely watching and saving all the details of our 50th reunion and that she had kept in touch with classmates over the years. Although at this age we know that anything can happen to our health, it’s especially sad that Linda was so close to observing the reunion milestone with friends.
