Lynn Cyester
February 19, 1999
I met Lynne when we were in the seventh grade. It seems like we were sitting near each other in the cafeteria, although she didn’t always eat there. I was intrigued by the fact she could go home for lunch since her house was across the street from the junior high. She was outgoing and friendly, and I was rather quiet and shy.
Although we didn’t have many classes together, our friendship grew through Girl Scout campouts and trips, shopping at the House of Materials for our sewing projects, going to the movies and doing homework together. I can remember spending long afternoons answering endless sheets of questions for Mr. Hayes history class. Together we shared the highs and lows of our high school years.
After graduation, our lives took different directions. We both met our husbands in college and attended each others weddings, but somehow our intentions of getting together never seemed to materialize. Lynne pursued her teaching career, further education and the love of boating with her husband, Steve, while I was busy raising young children.
Sadly, I had no idea that she was seriously ill until I read her obituary in the Millburn Item. She was gone at the young age of fifty five, and I didn’t have the chance to say good bye. But I will keep in my heart the friendship we shared for many years.
