Madelon Sprague
November 30, 2024
Madelon Sprague of Aurora, Ohio – or Madi, as she was known to family and friends – passed away on November 30, 2024. Born in Houston, Texas on June 19, 1943, Madi approached life with determination, strong convictions, and a delightfully outspoken wit that endeared her to all who knew her.
After growing up in Short Hills, New Jersey, and graduating from Millburn High School, Madi embarked on an impressive academic journey. She earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Wisconsin, followed by a law degree from Seton Hall Law School, and a master’s in tax law from NYU, achievements that spoke to her sharp mind and dedication to excellence. She practiced tax and family law in Cleveland, Ohio, for over 25 years.
Beyond her professional accomplishments, Madelon found joy in life’s many pleasures. An accomplished golfer, she proudly earned the title of women’s champion at Shaker Heights Golf Club. Her passion for classical music led her to become a devoted subscriber to the Cleveland Orchestra, and she delighted in playing piano for friends and family. Her garden was her pride and joy, and her kitchen was where she expressed her creativity and love for others. For years she volunteered cooking meals at the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland.
In retirement, Madelon’s entrepreneurial spirit and close relationship with her identical twin sister, Marianne Paul, led them to launch Twiinz Catering. Together they brought joy to countless celebrations by sharing their signature dishes that guests couldn’t resist. The sisters’ partnership in the kitchen was a natural extension of their lifelong connection, filled with laughter and spirited disagreements, and always ending in wonderful creations.
Madelon was particularly devoted to her role as an aunt to her twin sister’s children, sharing with them her love, wisdom, and no shortage of forthright opinions. Her quick wit and unmistakable laugh made her a favorite at family gatherings, where she could always be counted on to speak her mind and keep everyone entertained with her unique perspective.
One of Madi’s greatest joys came later in life when she reunited with her son, Dr. Peter Braverman, whom she had placed for adoption as a young woman. Their reconnection brought her immense happiness and began a cherished new chapter in both their lives.
Madi is survived by her beloved twin sister Marianne Paul, brother William Sprague, son Peter Braverman, grandchildren Athena and Max Braverman, and numerous nieces, nephews, grand-nieces, and grand-nephews, all of whom were touched by her strong spirit and generous heart. Each family member has their own collection of “Aunt Madi stories” that never fail to bring smiles and laughter when shared.
A Memorial Celebration of Madi’s rich and well-lived life will take place at Barrington Country Club in Aurora, OH on Sunday, May 25 from 12-3 p.m., where family and friends will gather to remember a woman who lived life on her own terms, spoke her mind freely, and loved her family fiercely. All are welcome to remember Madelon.
