Miles Tullo

November 13, 2024

Obituary

GROTON, CT – It is with heavy hearts that we share news of the passing of Miles Harvey Tullo on November 13th, 2024. Miles was an affable confidant who lived modestly and with ever-present optimism. We dearly miss him already.

Born in Chicago in 1943, he was the second of four siblings. His parents, Irmgard and Harvey Tullo, ultimately moved their family to Short Hills, NJ, where Miles graduated from Millburn High School in 1961. He later earned undergraduate and graduate degrees from Lehigh University.

Miles was a member of the football and track and field teams in high school, where he developed a love for sports that he maintained for the rest of his life. He remained active as an alumnus, attending reunions as recently as 2022 and always finding time on his return visits to enjoy a sloppy joe from “the Del” (Millburn Deli).

Throughout his life, Miles developed relationships quickly and without preconceptions. He loved a good story and enjoyed the company of people no matter their circumstances. One of his earliest friendships was also his most notable. For as long as he was able, Miles relished the time he spent with his second-grade best friend, Peter Herslow, and Peter’s wife, Nina. They last spoke two months before Miles’ passing.

Throughout his corporate career, Miles worked in finance and strategy roles at American Can, Ogden, and ABB, among others. Before retiring in 2015, he owned and operated an Alphagraphics franchise in Connecticut for 20 years.

Following his dementia diagnosis in 2022, Miles’ wife of 34 years, Elizabeth Tullo, took full responsibility for his well-being. “Nonna,” as he referred to her, was an unshakable force through the many ups and downs that dementia wreaks. Her love and devotion lifted them both and will forever remain a bright spot in an otherwise dark chapter of Miles’ life.

Miles is survived by Elizabeth; his three children, Miles P. Tullo (Linda), Kent Tullo (Sarah), and Lindsay McWhorter (Peter), and their mother, Jane Tullo; his three stepchildren, Sean Coffey (Leslie), Colleen Suthers (Macs), and Michael Coffey (Yasmin); his sisters Melanie Senderowitz (Peter) and Linda Allen; his brother, Bruce Tullo (Christine); and eleven grandchildren.

We will celebrate Miles’ life at an appropriate time and, in the meantime, appreciate the outpouring of well wishes and condolences we have received.
