Thomas Hustead
February 1986
If you knew Tom, you may remember a troubled young man. I certainly do. But, I also remember my brother as the little boy who sneaked downstairs with me hand in hand before dawn on Christmas day. The adolescent who loved fast cars and miniature French poodle puppies. The too-bright teenager who disdained books and acted like a rout but who nonetheless had an undying crush on Sue Palmer (MHS ’62). The indulgent older brother who taught me to drive with patience and care and once loaned me his Corvette convertible (to this day, the only time I have ever been whistled at) and who never failed to intercede for me between parents and trouble. My brother was never less than my hero as we grew up, but although he served honorably in the U.S. Army, Tom became a troubled adult. He died on or about Feb. 1, 1986 at 42.
